Numbers are used all throughout the Bible, and most of us skim over them without second thought.
But we know that God uses numbers throughout the Bible to point us to Jesus and give us little hints about the point He’s trying to get across. Here are a few examples.
First, consider the death and resurrection of Jesus. He died on Friday and was raised on Sunday, the third day. This is no mistake. All throughout the scriptures and in early Jewish tradition, the number three signified completeness and fullness. In other words, through the use of the number 3, we can learn that Christ’s death and resurrection was complete. It fully accomplished what it needed to.
One other, let’s look at the number 6. On the sixth day, God created mankind. All throughout the Bible, we see that the story is about Jesus. He’s the point. Yet all throughout the Old and New Testaments, we see man try to grab glory for himself. Which is why in Revelation, we see that the number of the beast – an evil number – is 666. This is a picture of mankind trying to make things about themselves.
